OPPO, one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world has just released the OPPO Sustainability Report 2021 a few days before the start of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022 in Barcelona. The Sustainability Report 2021 illustrates the results obtained by the company in the process of integrating sustainable practices and ecological concepts along the entire life cycle of the product. The initiatives undertaken are aimed at pursuing its brand mission: “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World”.

In the official statement OPPO states that:
OPPO undertakes to implement the internationally certified “3R + 1D” sustainable packaging principles and to reduce the weight of packaging, using recycled, recyclable and biodegradable materials for their realization. Since 2019, starting from the European market, the overall plastic used in the packaging of its smartphones has been reduced by 95%, while as regards the plastic materials that currently cannot be replaced, OPPO has chosen to use a biodegradable material: the polylactic acid. In addition, around 45% of its smartphone packaging in European markets has been made with recycled fiber, reducing the use of raw materials.
To increase the life of the product, OPPO has introduced a proprietary Battery Health Engine that allows you to increase the life of the batteries. With this innovative technology, the battery capacity is able to remain at 80% after more than 1600 charge-discharge cycles.
In addition to implementing these actions, OPPO has worked closely with other partners to promote sustainable behaviors. For example, OPPO was one of the first brands to join the Eco Rating Labeling Scheme and achieve good results. The program was initiated by leading European mobile operators to assess the environmental performance of smartphones within five key areas: durability, resource efficiency, repairability, recyclability and climate efficiency.
