Here is Sony's Project Q: the PS5 goes portable | Video

We searched, and it finally came. Sony has dropped an image of its new handheld gaming device, the Project Q. This device, which looks like an Android tablet with DualSense attacks, is bound to shake up the portable gaming market. The portable device is not designed to play Android games, but still uses the Android operating system. Let's see the details together.

Project Q details

The fact that the handheld console has Android at its core should come as no surprise, given that Sony has years of experience selling Android smartphones like the Xperia 1 V. While Sony's mobile and PlayStation divisions probably don't have much in common, Sony can still draw on its resources. instead of building a new operating system from scratch.

Project Q will allow for remotely play PS5 games. Has a 8 inch display 1080p, supports 60FPS and has the same grips and functionality as a DualSense controller. The device itself looks a lot like Sony split the DualSense controller in half, then attached each end to a small Android tablet. Many of the best Android game controllers mirror this design, sliding open and wrapping around Android smartphones so you can hold them like a Nintendo Switch. This includes the official Backbone One PlayStation Edition controller.

The future of the console: a portable PS5?

The software shown in the video is obviously not intended for consumer eyes, and the final version should show a more polished and user-friendly user interface which prioritizes your library of PS5 games. This leak has led players to speculate whether hackers will be able to access this software to sideload other games and apps on Project Q, not just PS5 Remote Play games.

But since this device is designed to run games from a PS5, which will handle most of the computation remotely and feed it to Project Q, this tablet is unlikely to have much internal processing power for other apps.

Considering that it is already possible to play remotely on Android or iOS with your smartphone or tablet, it is not clear how big the market for Project Q will be. But it could be of interest to PS5 owners who want a dedicated portable device instead of draining their smartphone battery with games. It will depend a lot on how much the device will cost.
