Cloud gaming has made it possible to run high-quality games on less powerful hardware and has really expanded to where games can be played. Now, it was reported that Sony is working on a new one Portable PlayStation which will not focus on cloud gaming but rather focus on streaming to a nearby console. Basically it cannot be used if you do not own a PlayStation (maybe 5) at home.

Insiders Gaming reports that Sony is working on a new product we will call the code-named PlayStation Portable”QLite“. The portable device would not be a cloud gaming device, but instead would require owners to also own a PlayStation 5 console and use the function "Remote Play" of Sony to play.
Secondo Insiders Gaming, “Q Lite” is a portable device with one 8″ touchscreen LCD screen with a resolution 1080p. Thanks to Sony's "Remote Play" function it would be possible to play, without using cloud gaming, but it would require owning a PS5 console. The portable device would also have a refresh rate of 60 fps and some key features, including tactile feedback and adaptive triggers.

The Q Lite handheld is still in the testing phase and is expected to launch alongside other products from the “second phase of Sony's PS5″, like a new model of PS5 with a removable disk drive and a pair of new wireless earbuds. The device is expected to arrive before the release of the alleged PlayStation 5 Pro, expected in late 2024.
While it's an interesting concept for more convenient access than a traditional console, it could be restrictive for the handheld device's game selection. Personally, it seems strange to me to buy a similar device that needs an expensive console to work. Offering both cloud gaming and remote play options would be a good idea to ensure more flexibility for your audience.
