Last 26 July was announced the launch of the new Xiaomi Smart Sound speaker at the price of 299 $.
After just a month the "beta to one yuan" test started, but I remind you that the item is not yet for sale! Let's now make a small assessment of the new born Xiaomi home.
The smart sound pack does not make you excited: it's a classic black box with the AI mark in yellow.
Then we find a sort of letter of adoption, roughly written: "I'm just a child, do not be too hard with me if you encounter problems", a kind of disclaimer that, given that it is a beta version, we can also be .
By opening the package we can see the speaker and the power supply.
Unfortunately the first thing you can notice on the side of the device is that it does not have a USB port for the standard power supply.
As with the overwhelming majority of speakers in business, the Xiaomi homeowner has no battery and needs to connect it to use.
As for the design, this is the typical one, with a white fuselage with rounded edges with a very elegant rectangular plan, if we want to vent a comparison, we can say it resembles a mini air purifier of the same house Xiaomi.
Speaking of materials the new Smart Sound Xiaomi disappoint a bit. Probably this is due to the low price, but the feel of the touch is a plastic toy and not even of very good quality (had expectations too high?).
From discreet and questionable design to design, the new xiaomi speaker is probably throwing us only for the price to be launched on the market.
The keys are positioned at the top and are touching, from the classic functions: raise and lower the volume, change the track, and turn the microphone on or off.
On top, 6 microphones are positioned for voice capture and voice awakening, thanks to which the speaker recognizes our phrases even over 2 meters away.
The speaker is also equipped with a bass reproduction unit (full-range 2,25 inches) with a conical reflector bottom, this structure is very common in this type of products, even Bose has to poco introduced a similar function in some of its products.
Although the price and dimensions are contained, one can be surprised by the sound quality, albeit with some imbalance, extremely pleasant and clear.
Let's talk about the various functions that can be used through this product, which, in addition to the classic music listening, offers the 3 consumer the main benefits:
- utility: we will have several classic functions: weather forecast, traffic information, alarm clock and news of the day.
- content: listening to music and radio.
- control: we could control other Xiaomi devices and not.
Obviously as the first beta version, the margin of improvement is rather broad, also because Wang Chuan has stated that most likely there will be other 2 if not 3 beta testing rounds.
The release date for retail has not yet been decided, so we just have to wait.
