Xiaomi reveals HyperOS architecture based on Android, Linux and Vela

Xiaomi HyperOS

Xiaomi HyperOS is the result of years of research and development, and is based on four main objectives: get the best performance on every device, leverage artificial intelligence to provide active services to users, facilitate connection between devices, and ensure maximum privacy and security protection.

To achieve these goals, HyperOS consists of three main layers: the system kernel layer, the framework and services layer, and the cross-end connection layer.

The system kernel layer is the heart of HyperOS, and integrates the Vela kernel developed by Xiaomi Deeply modified Linux kernel, rebuilding fundamental modules such as performance, task, memory and file management. This new hybrid kernel supports more than 200 processor platforms and more than 20 file systems, and can be flexibly configured depending on differences in hardware capabilities. In this way, the performance of each device is completely freed up.

The framework and services layer is what offers HyperOS functionality to users, e.g incorporates the Android services framework and the Vela system services framework as “middleware”. Additionally, it creates 8 new subsystems, including the AI subsystem, which integrates the capabilities of large models and becomes the “intelligent brain” of the entire system. This subsystem allows not only to achieve strong AI capabilities on the terminal side, but also to give the entire ecosystem intelligent capabilities.

The cross-end connection level is what allows all devices to communicate in real time, unifying the connection protocol. This layer allows you to build an intelligent world with “a complete ecosystem of people, cars and houses”.

HyperOS also created a full-end security system which crosses the three levels mentioned above. Specifically, at the system kernel level, Xiaomi has enabled a completely independent “self-developed microkernel security system” to ensure that security is implemented from the lowest level.

Xiaomi HyperOS will be officially presented on October 26 at 19pm at the 00 series launch conference.
