Qualcomm Announces New Clear Sight Double Camera System!

Qualcomm, one of the world's leading chipset builders, today unveiled its new Clear Sight system for dual-camera devices equipped with Qualcomm Spectra ISP (Image Sensor Processor), featuring the latest generation of SD820-821 chipsets.

The system is actually similar to that on the Leica optics of HuaWei P9 but Qualcomm has tried to recreate the visual mechanism of the human eye that through "cone" cells capture color but require much brightness while other cells, called "rods" are dedicated to capturing light even with low brightness.

Clear Sight is therefore composed of two cameras, each with its own lenses, its sensors and with the same focal length, that is, they are able to see the same length. The thing that differentiates the two cameras is the sensor: one that is dedicated to the capture of color (to mimic the functionality of the cells "cones"), the other, in b / n, that can absorb more brightness (to mimic then the "rod" cells).

From a technical point of view the sensors are the same, but the b / w one lacks the color filter in the outermost layer. In this way the sensor is able to capture 3 times more light than the other for color, ideal in environments poco enlightened.

With a dedicated b / w sensor, you have more contrasted b / w photographs. When then the color information from the other sensor matches the ones provided by the b / n sensor, then we get an excellent picture. This is the Clear Sight system.

Qualcomm Spectra, as we said on the Snapdragon 820-821 chipsets, is the ISP processor designed to quickly combine and process data simultaneously from both cameras, thus creating a high quality shot even in low light conditions, using a algorithm to "mix" the images captured by each camera.

There is no reason to try this new technology and compare the results obtained with other smartphones that are not powered by Qualcomm.
