Is it ever possible that we are already talking about Android 13 when we haven't seen Android 12 yet? Apparently yes. The next version of the most popular open source operating system in the world is already talking about itself and the developers of XDA Developers they have material in their hands that really burns. This is the possibility to make payments via NFC sensor through a second profile which is currently not enabled. Let's see the details.
We start talking about the features present in Android 13 Tiramisu: the next version of the operating system will allow great things like NFC payments for secondary profiles
Android has had multi-user support for several years, but secondary profiles have been missing one feature for a long time: the ability to configure NFC payments. However, this may change in the next version of android. XDA Developers found out new commits on AOSP Gerrit which, once merged into AOSP, could add support for contactless payments for secondary users. THE c have the following description:
Support multiple users for NFC payments
Configure nfc payment settings according to different users.
But how does the new feature work? These commits modify the app Settings to allow secondary profiles on the device to configure their contactless payment service. This setting is accessible only for owners and does not appear for secondary users or guests. We can find the setting by going to Settings > devices connected > Connection preferences > NFC > Contactless payments in the owner's profile.
Once Google enables the feature for secondary profiles in Android 13, it will be available for other profiles as well. Currently this feature does not exist on Android 12 as confirmed by XDA Developers. Not much is known about Android 13 Tiramisu a at the moment, but we'll keep our eyes peeled for new developments. Given this early and useful information, we will be able to learn about news very soon.
