Probably no one has ever heard of Android Things, one of the many Google projects regarding the IoT (Internet of Things), a sort of operating system for the management of home automation and products connected to the internet in general, which apparently does not has garnered the success or rather the desired interest.
Apparently the poor success of the project, despite important updates arrived in 2020, will lead to an abandonment of support for all non-commercial projects, so only business accounts will still be able to benefit from the improvements of the OS.
Android Things, Google's IoT project will die even before it's born
Android Things is a super light operating system, designed for electronic equipment with basic hardware and the basic idea is really brilliant, like the rest of the Google projects, as if used by a large number of devices, it would unify their management and it would facilitate the work of the developers, accelerating the integration and the real implementation of the IoT.
Nevertheless, starting from January 5, 2021, Android Things will no longer accept new projects that use NXP i.MX7D or Raspberry Pi 3B, while for all ongoing projects support will only be extended until January 5, 2022, but after this deadline every non-commercial project will be abandoned and no longer supported.
