Comparison between Xiaomi Mi 5 and Elephone S3

The first quarter of the 2016 is about to end, and most of the various smartphone makers have already presented the most novelties we will encounter this year. Specifically, during the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, many well-known brands brought their flagships and showed us all their potential. Among them, this year, for the first time, Xiaomi also participated, presenting to the public of the world its new top of the range expected for more than a year and a half Xiaomi Mi 5. Today, however, we will not only talk about the new Xiaomi home flagship but instead we will make a confrontation with a smartphone that will still have to be presented and heard about it, namely the S3 Elephone.

Let's start by comparing the technical specifications:

The first point in favor of the Xiaomi Mi 5 is definitely the processor used. In fact, we find the new Qualcomm home chip, huh Snapdragon 820, which even though it has fewer running cores, can achieve very high performance thanks to the core Kryo developed internally by the company itself. Second, in Xiaomi Mi 5 we find a type RAM memory L from 3 or 4 GB, while in the S3 ELEPHONE we find one from 3 GB in LPDDR3 format (less expensive). Continuing, we find a camera with dual flash LED (biton) that not only is more defined but also has an optical stabilization of the innovative image, namely 4 axis stabilization, which is not available on the Elephone S3. Not only that, even the front camera of the Xiaomi Mi 5 is much better, as it uses ultra pixels capable of capturing much more light and producing much brighter and more detailed photos even in situations with low light. We then find a larger battery (3000 mAh against 2100 mAh) with Quick Charge Support (Quick Charge 3.0), an up-to-date system based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow (compared to the competitor who is still based on Android 5.1 Lollipop), all in a weight of just 129 grams (compared to the 145 gr of the EXphone S3). In addition, compared to the S3 ELEPHONE, remember that the Xiaomi Mi 5 also has an infrared sensor to handle external devices via the smartphone. The only point in favor, if we can define it, is the ability to expand the internal memory via micro-SD for the Elephone S3, but on the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi 5 has an internal memory of various cuts (32 / 64 / 128 GB) in format UFS 2.0, which is much faster and more powerful. So, without thinking twice, the hardware-level victory is surely the Xiaomi Mi 5.

With regard to aesthetics and design, both make use of premium feeling materials. In fact, the Elephone is made up of a body entirely in metal with a fingerprint sensor at the back of the device, below the camera, and has a screen with technology 2.5D without side edges, while the Xiaomi Mi 5 has a back cover in glass (o ceramic) curved to the edges that continuously joins the metal side frame, creating a very premium effect with the fingerprint sensor moved to the front of the device and placed under a home physical key.
