Facebook and Xiaomi will work together to create a new VR viewer

Three years have passed since the king of social, Facebook has purchased Oculus and seems to have passed an eternity since Hugo Barra he left the leadership of Xiaomi to land in the US company taking part in the VR development division.

And maybe it's a casualty, but the latest news sees it the two companies tight in a collaboration to launch a new economic viewer, expected for the beginnings of 2018 and which should go around price of 200 dollars. Undoubtedly much cheaper than the current Oculus VR which has a cost of $ 400 but very close to what was the parent, the Samsung Gear VR.

Xiaomi already produces the We VR Play which is definitely much cheaper than its market mates but who can offer as many emotions. The collaboration between Facebook and Xiaomi stems from the idea of wanting to make VR technology a mass phenomenon, and this new device could eventually lay the foundations and offer a good VR experience to users at an affordable price. The device probably will be compact and lighter than the standard Oculus Rift and will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, achieving good graphics-level performance.

The design and functionality of the device are not final and may still change, but the idea is that someone will be able to pull the viewer out of the bag and watch movies on a flight just like you can now with a phone or tablet.

The Facebook connection with Xiaomi is in line with the previous close collaboration with Samsung for Gear VR, but this new device will have a custom version for China, the main market of Xiaomi, and the software of the Chinese company will be incorporated.

It's interesting to note that Facebook is banned in China and Chinese VR viewers have their own ecosystems. This will allow Facebook to reach a completely new group of customers. The social networking giant is pushing towards VR technology so much to introduce its ambitious project, Facebook Spaces (which beta reversal is available on the Oculus Rift), through which virtual spaces 3D will become part of the real world where people can interact.

No further rumors have been leaked but when two giants join they can only give light to something extraordinary.
