Find out how Gmail's new blue check feature can help you verify the authenticity of senders. All the news from Google

Google recently introdotto a new Gmail feature that could be great news for anyone who uses email for work or other important tasks. The function is concerned with verifying the authenticity of a sender and consists of a blue check mark next to company or sender name in Gmail inbox. The blue checkmark is an implementation of BIMI technology, which allows verified brands to include their authenticated logos in emails. This way, the recipients can have the certainty that the sender is actually who he says he is and not a scammer or spammer.

La BIMI technology, or Brand Indicators for Message Identification, was developed to help email recipients quickly identify authentic emails from verified brands. In practice, BIMI allows brands to send authenticated emails, which can be recognized by the recipients thanks to the presence of the brand logo. This logo must be verified and authenticated, so as to confirm the identity of the sender.

The advantage of this technology is that it allows recipients to quickly verify the authenticity of an email, without having to manually analyze the sender's email address or the contents of the email itself. Also, using BIMI might as well help prevent spam and fraudulent emails, as unauthorized senders would not be able to use the verified brand logo.

By hovering over the blue checkmark, it is possible display a pop-up with more information about sender verification and the link to a dedicated page. According to Google, the new feature will help create a better email ecosystem for everyone by increasing trust in email sources and blocking spam. The function will be available to all Gmail users by the end of the week. Workspace administrators can also configure BIMI for their company. At a time when information security is increasingly important, this new Gmail feature could be another step forward in the fight against spam and online scammers.
