Google Shopping, the virtual try-on of clothes in the dressing room arrives

In the world of online shopping, Google is leading the experience of trying on clothes to a whole new level. She imagines being able to try on a piece of clothing without having to physically wear it, and being able to see how it looks on you before buying it. That's exactly what Google Shopping is making it possible with its new virtual test feature, which uses artificial intelligence to showcase clothes on a huge selection of real models.

Artificial intelligence at the service of online shopping: a new way to try on clothes with Google Shopping and AI

The virtual try on of clothing is one of the most sought after features by online shopping users. In fact, 42% of online shoppers don't feel represented by model images, and 59% feel dissatisfied with an item purchased online because it looked different than expected. Thanks to Google's new virtual testing tool, now we can see if a garment is suitable for us before buying it.

Google's new generative AI model can take a single image of an item of clothing and reflect it accurately how it would fit, bend, stick, stretch, and form shadows on a diverse set of real models in various poses. Google selected people of different sizes (XXS to 4XL), skin tones (using the Monk Skin Tone Scale as a guide), body shapes, ethnicities, and hair types.

Starting today, shoppers in the US can virtually try on women's tops from brands featured on Google, including Anthropology, Everlane, H&M e LOFT. Just touch the products with the "Try On" badge on Google Search and select the model that best reflects you. Thanks to Google's Shopping Graph, the most comprehensive data set of products and sellers, this technology can be extended to more brands and items over time. More options for virtual fitting will be available soon, including the men's tops that will be launched later this year.

Also, Google has introduced new filters that help find exactly what we're looking for. Thanks to machine learning and new visual matching algorithms, it is possible refine your search using inputs like color, style, and model. And unlike shopping in a physical store, we won't be limited to just one retailer—we'll see options from stores all over the web. Google believes AI will continue to improve our lives in ways big and small, making everyday activities like shopping a little more useful (and fun).
