The Meta program: I pay you to post on Facebook

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is trying to attract more creators to its main platform, Facebook, with new monetization features. These changes come as the company looks to make short videos and AI-driven recommendations a more central part of its main social network. The news comes from colleagues of Engadget.

An analysis of the expansion of Meta's bonus program for content creators on Facebook

First of all, the "performance bonus programby Meta, which rewards creators for engagement on their Facebook posts, is "expanding significantly." The program is still alone su invitation, but the company is planning to sign up more creators and add additional bonuses to boost their potential earnings. The expansion comes after Meta previously cut payouts from a bonus program that paid creators for interacting with Reels.

It is noteworthy, therefore, that the performance bonus program is geared towards Facebook feed posts, not Reels or Stories. In a blog post, Meta points out that “the most successful creators on this show post regularly, typically every day“, with a combination of text and photo posts.

Meta is also testing two new features that could make sharing content between Instagram and Facebook easier. The company experiences the cross-posting for sponsored content so that creators can more easily share Instagram sponsored posts in Reels and Stories on Facebook. A separate test will allow “selected creators” to earn money from Reels that include music tracks licensed from the company's audio library.

According to Meta, the updates are intended to help creators "earn stable income streams on Facebook." But the changes also appear designed to increase creator interaction with Facebook as the platform struggles to keep younger users interested, who are more interested in TikTok and Instagram. Attracting more creators to post more original content on Facebook will also be a big part of Meta's strategy to move its main social network away from feeds to a more TikTok-like "discovery engine" in the coming year. But to re-orient Facebook around recommendations, Meta will need a much larger pool of original content first by the creators to keep users scrolling.
