MediaTek has unveiled a series of technologies called Dimensity Auto, a hardware platform for automakers that transforms a standard vehicle into a smart car. The company explained what exactly is included in the proprietary solution. MediaTek Dimension Auto Cockpit includes a “complete portfolio of solutions” related to the provision of driver and passenger information: chip 3nm for multimedia system control, dedicated blocks for running AI scripts, a video stream processing system from cameras and multiprocessors equipped with a deep learning accelerator (MDLS) and an image processing unit (MVPU).
Dimension Auto Connect is the vehicle network subsystem. Includes chips 5G, WiFi 7, Bluetooth, navigation and satellite communications. In the end, Dimension Auto Drive and Auto Component they offer processors and other hardware to implement self-driving capabilities. The date of appearance of the first cars based on the new platform and the manufacturer's list of compatible operating systems have not yet been disclosed.
However, we can assume that companies like Xiaomi will be able to count on the support of such hardware. Although Lei Jun's company is focusing on "everything produced in-house", the hypothesis of a collaboration should not be underestimated.
