MediaTek Helio G91 officially launched: here are the features of the new chipset for cheap smartphones

MediaTek Helio G91

The MediaTek Helio G91 is based on an octa-core configuration that includes two Arm Cortex-A75 cores operating up to 2.0GHz for more intensive tasks e six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz for energy efficiency, coupled with a ARM Mali-G52 MC2 GPU at 1.0 GHz. This setting takes over from the G88, maintaining a balance between performance and battery saving. The SoC has support for one LPDDR4x memory up to 8GB, as well as for one XMMUM eMMC internal memory.

One of the most interesting features of the G91 is its improvement in the camera. The chipset allows devices to use 108MP sensors, promising clearer, more detailed photographs in various lighting conditions. The in-sensor zoom functionality, supported by the 2.0um pixel binning, is aimed at improving low-light performance and providing lossless portrait shots with greater detail. Additionally, MediaTek has included a number of hardware accelerators to support advanced photography, such as dual-camera bokeh, electronic image stabilization (EIS) and rotating shutter compensation (RSC).

MediaTek Helio G91

The G91 also features HyperEngine gaming technologies from MediaTek, designed to optimize performance across CPU, GPU and memory based on real-time power, temperature and gameplay factors. This ensures sustained performance and smoother gameplay. The chipset also supports the dual 4G VoLTE, as well as Wi-Fi 5.

For drivers, the G91 includes a inertial navigation engine for accurate location tracking in areas without GPS service and voice wake-up functionality for hands-free control, increasing safety and convenience.

The MediaTek Helio G91 has already been teased by MediaTek India on its social channels, so we can expect it to power a budget 4G smartphone in India soon. There's no word yet on when the chipset will be available in other markets, but it's assumed that it will be intended for a price range of less than 200 euros. With its launch, MediaTek aims to compete with rivals such as Qualcomm and Samsung, which offer similar solutions for low- and mid-range smartphones.
