Meta has often been considered to lag behind its competitors, such as Microsoft, Google and OpenAI, in the field of AI, but Bosworth has firmly rejected this idea. “Meta is not late. Already at the end of last year, with the advent of ChatGPT, we were a global leader. We have powered our platform with AI,” she said.
Bosworth explained that Meta wants users to get fast, high-quality search results on their smartphones too. For this reason, Meta has invested in generative AI, which can produce texts, images, audio and video independently and creatively.
In November last year, Meta had launched a Generative AI-based chatbot called "Galactica”, who could write articles, solve mathematical problems and sometimes invent answers. But Meta had closed it "quickly". Earlier this year, Meta had open sourced the model llama 2, allowing developers to tinker with it and create their own chatbots.
During Goal Connect 2023, Meta presented a new chatbot called “Meta AI” and announced a collaboration with Microsoft for integrate Bing search into Meta AI. Meta AI is now available in beta in the United States. Users can access it across Meta's social media and chat services, including WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.
Bosworth stated that Meta AI is able to understand the context, tone and intentions of users, and adapt its style and content accordingly.
Finally, Bosworth pointed out that Meta is committed to the safety and accountability of generative AI. He said Meta AI follows ethical and legal guidelines to avoid producing harmful or deceptive content.
