Google wants to call Nearby Share…Quick Share. What does Samsung have to do with it?

The collaboration between Google and Samsung continues to expand with the latest development of which we were informed: the Merging Google's Nearby Share with Samsung's Quick Share. This move marks a further step towards integration and efficiency in sharing files between devices, with notable upgrades in both functionality and design. But why is Google renaming the application to share files between devices?

Quick Share will be the name of what is now Nearby Share

Google and Samsung have consolidated their technological partnership through several projects, including the joint development of WearOS 3 and IAMF, intended to compete with the Dolby Atmos standard in spatial audio. Recently, it seems that Google is adopting a strategic approach in renaming its Nearby Share to Quick Share, a step that reflects their vision of more integrated and immediate file sharing.

A report has revealed that Google has started renaming Nearby Share to Quick Share, following a Google Services (GMS) update to version 23.50.13. This change is not just nominal; the new name is accompanied by a renewed icon that merges the distinctive elements of Nearby Share and Quick Share. Continuous integration also manifests itself through Updated privacy options and ease of use, allowing users to limit the visibility of Quick Share or open it to all nearby devices.

The Quick Share feature expands beyond Android devices, having already reached Windows OS, and it is hypothesized that it may soon land on MacOS. This development not only benefits Google and Samsung, but also the entire Android ecosystem, making it easier to share files with Windows devices and potentially with Apple ones too.

It is interesting to note that Google has chosen to adopt the name "Quick Share", already used by Samsung for its file sharing utility on Galaxy phones. This could mean a fusion not only of names but also of technologies, leading to even greater synergy between the two tech giants' devices.

The possibilities that open up thanks to this new technology are vast: one greater interconnectivity between devices of different ecosystems, an improved user experience through intuitive design and customizable privacy options, and the potential creation of a universal file sharing standard. These developments suggest a vision of the future in which the Sharing files between devices from different manufacturers will thus be fluid and integrated to become second nature to users.
