When we don't feel like waiting for an official update for our device OnePlus we can rely on OxygenUpdater. Recently the guys behind the project have reached the quota of 1 million total downloads and to celebrate this milestone they decided to renew the application. To tell the truth, this renewal was already scheduled for October 2020. After several attempts, we arrived at the version 5.0. Although it is a beta, the application Oxygen Updater is pretty stable and they are confident that soon they will be able to bring it permanently to the Play Store. But what changes? The redesign focused on three key points:
- update the design language throughout the app
- improve some UI / UX issues
- reduce CPU / memory usage as much as possible
The app's home screen has been “flattened” and now uses a navigation bar at the bottom instead of the tabs at the top. In today's world where smartphone screen sizes are increasing every year, it's important to improve accessibility. One of the coolest things is that in the new version, within the main page there are ALL the information necessary for the user. While before there was only one data, or if the device was updated or not, now there is incremental version, the month of updating security patches, Android version and all the information of the latest update in a dropdown
Longtime users will know that within the Oxygen Updater application it is possible read news about the OnePlus world and the OxygenOS. This section has also been renewed by adding i names of the authors and their timestamps (ex. “written 6 days ago”) to help users understand when an article is dated. It was also added the option to share the article, which was not present before. Finally, the possibility of mark individual articles as read: before it was possible to mark them all together.
Another new feature is the "My device". In a much more professional way than before there is aimage showing the preview of our device, registered at the time of installation.
