Qualcomm announced today aptX Lossless, a new feature of aptX Adaptive that promises to deliver lossless audio of CD quality via Bluetooth. AptX Lossless claims to deliver 16bit / 44 CD quality audio. Qualcomm claims that no data is lost when audio is encoded and decoded with aptX Lossless. There lossless audio mode it will be automatically enabled when aptX Adaptive detects that the source file is lossless.

To deliver CD-quality lossless audio, aptX Adaptive works in tandem with "Qualcomm Bluetooth High Speed Link”To provide data throughput over 1 Mbit / s. In congested environments, it gradually scales up to 140 kbit / s to avoid audio dropouts and glitches.
Note that aptX Lossless it is not a new Bluetooth codec. Rather it is part of the aptX Adaptive codec. For starters, aptX Adaptive is a highly scalable Bluetooth codec, offering variable bitrate, low system latency and high data rate.

AptX Lossless offers the following the features:
- supports lossless CD audio quality at 44.1 kHz and 16 bit
- users can choose between 44.1kHz lossless audio CD and 24-bit 96kHz lossy audio CD
- auto detect to enable lossless CD audio when the source is lossless audio
- mathematically exact bit by bit
- bit rate: 140 kbit / s -> 1 Mb / s
