Someone might think this Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is yet another mid-range smartphone of the Chinese company, given the growing number of devices we have witnessed this year, but he actually stands out for design, really beautiful thanks to a gradient coloring, in our case Aurora Blue but also one hardware that should not be underestimated to meet everyone's needs. Already from the pack we realize that we have in our hands a special device, unique because Xiaomi has equipped Mi 8 Lite of a super colored sales box that stands out and immediately makes me want to open it, finding inside:

And given the preface that we have done, we can only start this review with the design of Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, one of the strengths of the smartphone that is proposed to the general public with one combination of glass and aluminum characterized by colors worthy of a modern work of art and 2.5D machining. In fact, the back made in mirrored glass stands out in the Aurora Blue color with gradients ranging from violet to deep blue and that in reflection with light create striking color plays. Perhaps the originality is not a hallmark of this terminal, but if the inspiration to other rival models has made Xiaomi churning out a device like that, then it is well to be flicked.
That said, the suggestive colored back is interrupted by the insertion of a fingerprint sensor almost flush with the body and one dual horizontal camera slightly protruding accompanied by a LED single tone flash. The protrusion of the camera, if you do not use the back cover provided, will create discomfort when using the smartphone on a flat surface only when you press the top left of the display while for what concerns the fingerprint sensor as usual proved to be reliable, precise and fast in unlocking also allowing special functions such as blocking access to certain applications or photo shooting.
I profiles running along Mi 8 Lite are made of plastic colored blue, which for the period when I used the smartphone seems to have resisted the color and scratches, but only time will give the right answer to the effective resistance of colored material, even if the advice is to use the back cover supplied that increases the grip of the phone because the material used is slightly slippery, eliminates the slight problem of the protrusion of the camera and above all protects the device perfectly. Returning to the profiles, on them we find on the left side the trolley of the SIMs able to host two SIM cards in nano format or 1 SIM and a micro SD card for memory expansion with support up to 256 GB, provided you give up the Dual SIM Dual Standby functionality.
On the right there are the volume rocker and the power button while on the upper profile we find in absolute solitude only the second microphone for the reduction of environmental noise, therefore no jack from 3,5 mm e no IR transmitter. Too bad for the latter. On the bottom there is a double symmetrical grid at the entrance Type-C with OTG support, to whose left we find the main microphone while on the right it mono speaker.
And before telling you about the rest, I'll briefly mention the ergonomics of the smartphone, which thanks to dimensions equal to 156,4 x 75,8 x 7,5 mm and a weight of 169 grams, distributed harmoniously over the entire body, make Mi 8 Lite one of the best smartphones that I have held in my hand. I've always been able to use it in one hand even in extreme situations, like in a car, and I have to say that I've never had to complain if not at oleophobic level both on the front and on the back, because Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite gets dirty just looking at it.

Let's go back to the bomb on the mono type system speaker, but since well balanced sound and very generous volume without distorting the sound which overall has satisfied me for most of the multimedia situations, such as listening to music or video. And I also immediately talk about the network connectivity that Mi 8 Lite offers, which boasts the full support for the B20 band at 800 MHz, with possibility to use the function Dual 4G but especially of hook the 4G + signal, which should not be underestimated in the price range to which the telephone is placed. In short, with Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is a pleasure to enjoy multimedia content. Finally good visibility under the light thanks to an anti-reflection treatment. The only defects found are a incorrect polarization of the panel and the lack of support for high definition streaming content, because The Google Widevine DRM certificate is of the 3 level.
As I mentioned, Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite adopts the notch, which is decidedly more content respect the Mi 8 series, and then aesthetically gives even more elegance to the terminal. Even in this case though the problem of displaying notifications remains, but apparently the future updates to MIUI 10 seem to want to eliminate this burden. But poco it matters, because it is enough to get used to it and then if the users of the bitten apple do not complain after spending 1000 euros why should we do it because we have spent 4 times less? (cynicism or provocation?)
Ok, Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is undoubtedly beautiful to see but then how it behaves in everyday life, in short, is the saying nice and stupid? The answer is no, as Mi 8 Lite offers a respectable hardware that consists of one Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 CPU Octacore to 2.2 GHz clock to which the GPU Adreno 512 @650MHz, 6 GB of LPDDR4X dual channel RAM and 128 GB of internal storage expandable eMMC type 5.1. At the benchmark level you do not get dizzy scores, but I assure you that during the use of every day the difference between him and a top of the range is not even noticed. In situations of stress, the terminal reacts well, always offering a system fluidity up to expectations without ever overheating. A praise should certainly be made to Xiaomi for the optimization of the software on this Mi 8 Lite, surprising for speed and fluidity, overcoming many devices of the competition.
When I received the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite I found the classic MIUI 9.6 basic, which in our case was the Global Stable 9.6.5.0 version with 01 security patch 2018 September. During my week of testing I received an update, which however only brought about an improvement in system stability and overall performance. But just 24 hours before this review, with my surprise sum the MIUI 10 in Global Stable version has also reached my device by updating to the 10.0.3.0 version with 01 October 2018 security patch, improving even more the fluidity and general stability of the system, and even if there is not yet a solution to the notifications in the "horns" of the display, however, it is possible to view at least the percentage of the battery. So it is useless to talk about it because now we know it as our pockets, but it is right to point out that we already find the Italian language, Play Store and Google services fully functional, then a phone ready to use without having to go crazy with flash ROM or other, but the however, it is advisable to unlock the boot loader, given the waiting times that are required.
So let's talk about the rest of the hardware that consists of a Dual bandwidth 802.11a / b / g / n / ac WiFi (2.4 / 5.0 GHz) with support for WiFi Direct and WiFi display, Bluetooth 5.0 e GPS / AGPS / GLONASS / BeiDou from the quick fix. For both rooms, rear and front, we have available the AI technology that once active it is able to recognize the scene or the framed subject and set automatically the best shooting parameters. The rendering of the photos in daytime is definitely valid, full of details and good representation of the colors. The bokeh effect that you get from both rooms is very good and for photos taken with the back room, if there is a face, we can also apply 3D light effects, while for all other photos we can apply effects on the blurred.
AI mode is not too invasive and often helps us take a better picture, a really convenient option for those not accustomed to photography. We can not define Mi 8 Lite as a camera phone, but to answer the initial question, surely the difference with the photo area of Redmi Note 5 Pro is seen and also a lot.

The unlocking times proved to be quite rapid, not lightning, but absolutely performing the performance of the function that was able to unlock 10 times on 10.
