Find X7 Ultra the KING of Oppo photography has arrived

Exactly like last year it seems Oppo has decided not to export his 2 jewels, Oppo find x7 e Oppo Find X7 Ultra, outside China. However, a small glimmer of hope can be glimpsed in the near future, given the resolution of the dispute over the 4G patents with Nokia which had led to the ban of the Chinese brand from the German and French markets (a ban which naturally could then easily have been expanded to all of Europe), news that from a few days ago. While waiting for any long-awaited news for all lovers of the brand, we have the possibility of having it arrive from China and using it in Italy with Chinese firmware. What does this imply? some small software sacrifices but I assure you that the phone remains very usable even for us. After all, I've been using the Find X6 for 7 months and I'm happy with it. So in this article I will tell you about the beautiful Find X7 Incredibly which arrived a few days ago and I have already tested it thoroughly. I'll tell you about the phone and these little software sacrifices I told you about above.

Oppo Find X7 video review

Oppo Find X7 Ultra PACKAGING

Luckily, Oppo has not been influenced by the ridiculous trend of making ever smaller packages (the Pixel 8 pro is an example of this) in fact we find everything we need to open it and use our smartphone as best as possible, and without fear:

  • Oppo Find X7 Ultra (with pre-installed screen protector)
  • Rubberized cover
  • Ultra-fast 100W charger
  • Type A – Type C charging cable
  • Clip for removing SIM tray
  • Various booklets

I am naturally VERY satisfied to find a package full of features, which allows us not to worry about having to buy other accessories. I gave the example of the Pixel where you won't find: charger, cover and film... which in my opinion is ridiculous which doesn't allow us to use it immediately and forces us to spend at least another €50/60. Perhaps the charger could have been equipped with a Type C output which is now standard, but it's really a detail poco important. The cover is beautiful although it naturally completely covers the back of the smartphone. If you want to keep it visible you will need to buy a transparent one. Note of merit for the shipping company (which I will tell you about later) whose packaging is certainly the best we have ever seen for a shipment from China.

AESTHETICS Oppo Find X7 Ultra

From an aesthetic point of view, the famous Latin proverb "De gustibus non est disputandum" always applies, so I will tell you mine which obviously remains a very personal consideration. I don't like the leather approach on phones so I can't be particularly happy with the choice Oppo to make the Ultra model only in these variants (blue, black and brown). Undoubtedly there is an advantage not from poco for those who use it without a cover, in fact with this material the grip increases exaggeratedly and is really much darker than a glass back. Let's say that the satin glass of the Find X6 remains unsurpassed. Moving on to the camera assembly we find a really large and thick porthole, which protrudes quite a bit. Unfortunately there isn't much to do here, given the size of the sensors, the 4 sensors of which 2 are periscopic, I don't think it could have been done much better, so it must be accepted to then enjoy the photographic performances which are truly incredible. The imbalance towards the cam group is not felt very much but in the pocket it certainly is. In fact its dimensions are 164.3 76.2 x x 9.5mm for 221Gr in weight, numbers that certainly make it a smartphone poco portable and uncomfortable especially in the summer months when it may have to be placed in a trouser pocket. I remain of the opinion that the maximum limit not to be exceeded is 200Gr and a width of 74mm for optimal one-handed use (this measurement obviously applies to mine...). Here we go much further and this is not a point that speaks in his favor.

For the rest we immediately find a wonderful surprise, on the left side the physical switch (OnePlus Style) which will allow us to put it on silent without having to enter the phone settings, a feature that I have always loved in my OnePlus. On the right side the volume rocker and the power button. Above the infrared transmitter and system speaker. Under the Type C 3.2 (with video output) for charging and the second system speaker.

DISPLAY Find X7 Ultra

If on the one hand the dimensions make us turn up our noses a bit, on the other we must say that the display is a real feast for the eyes. We are at the highest brightness levels on the market, a peak of 4500 Nits, which will allow us to see our contents perfectly even in summer under direct sunlight. The refresh rate is 120Hz, in line with the refresh rate that today appears to be a standard, and it can also be set in automatic mode so that based on the contents we are viewing, if not necessary, the frequency will be lowered until it reaches 1hz thanks to the panel LPT extension third generation. Tested with games, films and TV series and I must tell you that you can almost even think about abandoning the tablet and enjoying this content on this smartphone. The touch sampling rate is 240Hz, so you won't miss any commands even when going at the speed of light! As regards the form factor we have an EDGE display, therefore curved on the sides. Here the dispute will certainly arise between those who prefer this format and those who prefer a flat format. Since the first Edge to Edge models, I have preferred this type of display even if at the beginning, with the first models, some involuntary touches occurred. Now it hasn't happened to me for a few years, certainly thanks also to the refinement of the software. Of course you will have to take this into account if you prefer flat screens.

The colors are well calibrated and the settings are really numerous. In fact, you can schedule the timing to have the dark mode, keep it always active or not use it, set it to your liking on three shades of dark screen and much more. There are also three settings for the color tone, natural-pro-vivid, two system fonts, three display sizes, large-standard-small, three modes to set the screen refresh rate, auto-60Hz -120Hz and many other settings.

In short, the display is evidently a strong point of this smartphone and I imagine it will be on the podium of the top of the range this year.

AUTONOMY Find X7 Ultra

The autonomy guaranteed by a 500mA battery is really not bad 5000mAh (double 2500mAh cell). In my tests I averaged about 6 hours display on, from 8am to midnight. Mixed use of 24G/Wi-Fi, a couple of hours of hotspot (which consumes a lot), many photos and videos, a lot of WhatsApp/Telegram, social media (FB-IG), some voice calls . I must say that the SD 5 gen 8 seems to manage consumption very well and the combination with the LPTO screen helps a lot. Android 3 is certainly more economical than previous versions of Android, all of which means you don't have to worry about having to recharge your phone at the end of the afternoon. Ultra-fast charging a 100w allows a complete recharge in poco more than 20 minutes, but as I always remember, never let your smartphone go below 20% remaining charge. Partial recharges are always recommended, so even if you are at 50% recharge without worries.

Oppo Find X7 Ultra CAMERA

In this chapter we see the most important and expected aspect of this smartphone, the photographic quality and in particular the main one and the periscopic one, which is actually double (the only model on the market with this feature).

MAIN PHOTO CAMERA

Let's start from the main camera which is the brand new sensor Sony Lytia Lyt-900 by one inch. The quality of the shots, in all light conditions, is obviously excellent with wide margins for improvement being a brand new sensor. The collaboration with Hasselblad which has lasted for a few years bears fruit in the software development which I certainly consider to be the best I have tested, let's say at the level of Huawei which to this day I still consider the photographic reference point for every smartphone. The colors are always very similar to the real ones. The minimum saturation that is applied does not affect, as on other brands whose names I will not mention, or distort the reality we are photographing. Portraits are good, landscapes are good, objects are good and night photos are good despite the absence of the Marsilicon X NPU (unjustified absence). Present the usual "sea" of settings and filters/corrections for portraits. Let's say that if you love editing your photos then you are in the right place.

ZOOM CAMERA (PERSICOPE)

Here we are faced with an absolute novelty in the smartphone photography field, in fact we have 2 periscopic cameras, one 3X ƒ/2,6, equivalent focal length 65 mm (sensor Sony IMX890) it's a 6X ƒ/3.4, equivalent focal length 135mm (Sony IMX 858) both with autofocus and OIS. All this data and sensors produce an optical zoom, without loss of detail, up to 6X and a digital zoom up to 120X. If regarding the main sensor we can certainly discuss which will be the King of 2024, for zoom shots I think it will be difficult to surpass the quality of the shots of the Find X7 Ultra. Poco the lighting conditions count, you will always have hyper-detailed photos, with very little noise and of the highest quality. There's no point in getting lost in chatter, here I attach some explanatory shots.

ULTRA WIDE CAMERA

The ultra-wide-angle camera does not differ from the other 3 and takes excellent photos. The sensor is also the new Sony, 600/1 inch LYT-1,95, ƒ/2.0 equivalent to 14 mm, 123°. The autofocus is essential for macros and can shoot up to 4cm away. Really beautiful macros as the panoramic photos are beautiful. Also here is a series of shots with this sensor:

SELFIE CAM

The selfie cam is also very good, taking well-defined photos even in less than optimal lighting conditions. Incredible shot with the sunset in the background. From that position I was never able to keep a good light on my face and the beauty of the sunset in the background. I had never succeeded before the Find X7 Ultra. The shots against the light are also good, the exposure is excellent which allows you to keep the subjects in the foreground illuminated and not burn the light source (evident in the shot at home with the door behind).

VIDEO

As far as videos are concerned, perhaps we are not at the level of the iPhone 15 pro max, but poco we miss. The optical stabilization works very well and the shots are fluid without jerks or annoying loss of focus. Tested in the open countryside with plenty of greenery, a situation that is always difficult to recover and these are the results.

GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS CAMERA

It goes without saying that we were all waiting for the Find . In fact, expectations have been maintained and I think there could be even improvements with the next updates as the Lyt-7 certainly needs to be studied well. The only question I have left is why the Marsilicon Night shots would probably have benefited but if this was the choice there must have been a reason (perhaps incompatibility with SD900 gen 6)

FIRMWARE

We come to one of the thorniest topics, namely the fact that, at least to date, we do not have a global rom and therefore we will have to use the Chinese one. Let's start by saying that the Italian language is NOT present. However, we will find English and French, the others are absolutely unusable for us... some of them I can't even understand which country they are from. So the first setup will have to be done in English. Depending on the store where you buy it, you can receive it with or without play store but the most important thing is that i GOOGLE SERVICES There are! Therefore, in case there is no play store, you can just download it as an APK and install it. At that point you simply have to start it, log in to your Gmail account and download all the applications that interest you. Below I leave you the link to download the PLAY STORE

SYSTEM LANGUAGE

Now, having the system language in English, the play store will take the system language as its language and therefore install the applications in English. Here we must make an important distinction between apps: almost all the most important ones have the possibility, via settings, to set a preferred language so you will have no problem because you can put it in Italian (for example Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok). Others, however, will not have the possibility to set a preferred language and will take the system one and in this case you will have to keep it in English.

If you have a minimum of computer skills you will also have the possibility of having both the playstore and therefore all the applications in Italian. To do this you will need it More 2 room, an application that will allow you to select the system language in Italian even if Italian is not available. But to install this app you will have to follow a guide because there will be some (simple) preliminary operations to perform. Here I leave you the link to the guide if you are interested. In this way, I remind you, you will have playstore and all the applications in Italian but the phone settings will remain in English and some (few) in Italian.

SOFTWARE CRITICISM

The Chinese firmware brings with it other small critical issues that will not allow you to fully enjoy the Android potential we are used to. These do not make it impossible for us to use but they may not be acceptable for some so I have decided to summarize the most important ones in my opinion in a table:

FunctionSIDO NOT
OTA updatesX
Italian Language MenuX
Applications in Italian – Italian keyboardX
Google servicesX
Google Play applicationsX
Notifications Lock screen – Notification barX
AOD notificationsX
BT connection with the machineX
Android AUTO (not tested)X
Google WalletX
VoltaX
Google voice assistantX
Alexa voice assistantX
Google functions with Chinese firmware

As you can see, most of the core features are present. In fact, you will have all the OTA updates (and very quickly too), all the application notifications, the possibility of paying with NFC via the Google wallet and the BT connection with the machine. On Android Auto, although I haven't been able to test it, I've read about people who haven't been able to make it work so I'm saying NO, but I won't give you that for sure. Notifications from third-party applications are certainly not usable, those that you install yourself such as WhatsApp, Facebook, etc., on the Always on Display (to be clear, the screen is always on). The AOD is there and also very elaborate, with a lot of customization, but the notifications that can be activated are only those of the system applications, therefore calls, text messages, etc. Speaking of calling, I take this opportunity to tell you that it is possible RECORD CALLS with the default dialer. As for the Google voice assistant (not voice search which works perfectly) there is no way to set it as default, so it doesn't work.

APPLICATION SETTINGS

For all the applications you install you will have a sea of settings for notifications, energy saving, autostart, running in the background and much more. So my advice, if you have some malfunctions don't worry, you will probably just have to go into the specific settings and set the individual application as you prefer. If you want to install MoreLocale I remind you that you will then have to set it as "automatic start". This is because it needs to be restarted at every reboot. In my case, since I turn off the phone at night, it is a fundamental setting otherwise I would have to do it manually at every startup.

ASSISTANT BREENO AND AI

Unfortunately, the great potential of the Breeno assistant and the integrated generative artificial intelligence can only be partially used here, in fact the many settings and operations it can perform are the prerogative of services in China. Even if you set the language to English, several assistant menus remain in Chinese. It seems useless to me just to try to understand how it can be used here and for which services it could be useful. Let's take artificial intelligence at face value and use it at least in photos. Breeno Touch is really interesting as it allows us to search for photos (but only on Chinese sites), extract and translate text. The translation works from Chinese to other languages, including Italian. But unfortunately we will also need this function poco, the translation one, while the recognition and capture of the text is very useful.

OTHER

If I had to mention all the settings of the Color OS14 this article would probably become a big mess... so I will only talk to you about the functions that I liked most, hoping to give you a little help on the possible choice to purchase it. For me, the ability to set an on and off timer is fundamental, I use it regularly and it is perfect for those like me who use an alarm clock but want to turn off the phone at night. There is also the app cloning function, a function that I use and that for example I didn't find on day one on the Pixel 8 pro (not a €200 phone). The stock gallery is excellent and allows us to have many views and edit photos and videos in a crazy way, therefore without the need to install third-party applications. After creating your Oppo account and logging in you can use artificial intelligence to remove objects from photos and I assure you that it works really well, here I give you some examples. It is also possible to extract elements from a photo and save them or send them via our applications

Also very interesting is the sidebar where we can save all the notes from the various applications, screenshots, etc. and then use them when we need them. There are also links to the various applications we use.

Find X7 Ultra

4G/5G NETWORKS

Here a really complicated chapter opens because I am not, and I don't think many of you are, experts in telephone networks and frequencies. However, I can bring you my experience which may perhaps be useful to you. To be sure that the phone supports your operator's networks you will have to cross-check, but even then you will not be sure that it works well. but what do I mean by works well? of course that you can fully exploit the download and upload speed of your operator. For those who still use 4G there shouldn't be any major problems as the infamous 20 band is present. As regards 5G I'll give you my example: with the Find then switched to Iliad and the operation was perfect, as it is perfect with the 6 Ultra. Stable connection and download/upload averages even much higher than friends who use the same line with global products. So I don't consider telephone networks to be a problem at all as today switching from one operator to another can only bring economic advantages and in terms of offer. So if you were to have problems with your operator, switching to Iliad (I'm not a promoter but it's the operator that today gives me guarantees with Oppo China) would certainly solve them. Here is an example of my 7G connection at home (even better outdoors).

PROJECTED IMPACT

So, after this in-depth analysis, we come to the conclusions. The real doubt that remains is only one, to understand if in the near future Oppo decides to export this phone to Europe, because obviously having it in a global version would really be the TOP. But given last year's choice, there would be a risk of waiting for nothing. So the question is: does it make sense to buy it from China with Chinese firmware? Only you will be able to answer this question based on the critical issues I have told you about.

In conclusion, as far as I'm concerned, I would like to recommend this beautiful smartphone to you for several reasons:

  • The software disclaimers we must comply with do not impact everyday use
  • If a global model were released, purchasable in Italy, the price would rise by at least 30% (at least)
  • From China there are many alternatives for purchasing
  • You will have a top smartphone in every aspect and probably the best cameraphone 2024

If you decide to purchase, here is the direct link where I purchased it, TradingShenzen, our highly reliable partner site, which will give you the opportunity to take it home at a fair price in about 10/15 days with priority shipping free of annoying taxes customs. For the more skeptical there will also be the possibility to pay via PayPal. The phone will arrive with the PlayStore already installed and soon they will also ship smartphones with MoreLocale installed (to have Italian in all applications). After purchasing, send an email requesting how you prefer to receive it.
Having said everything there is to know, all I can do is wish you happy shopping!
