Xiaomi is currently one of the technology companies closest to users from a price point of view. In fact, by sacrificing its earnings to increase its popularity among the people, it has already made a success in China, India and the other markets in which it operates. But would the same thing happen in Italy? If Xiaomi were to officially land in Italy tomorrow (it is a hypothetical speech, it is 100% sure that its arrival in Italy will not be so immediate), do you think it would immediately obtain a huge success or would it be snubbed by most? Let's try to analyze the situation for a moment.
Xiaomi is a practically unknown brand in Italy were it not for true enthusiasts. This is the biggest obstacle. Xiaomi currently operates only online although in the future it will open many physical stores in China. From this point of view, success in Italy would be difficult to achieve, given that most people are still tied to physical stores (very often for fear of online scams).
Another major obstacle would be the incredible popularity of manufacturers such as Samsung and Apple. Take for example the Korean giant and its marketing campaign that makes it almost impossible for other producers to get success. For example, think about the advertising of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and its diving resistance that is constantly on the air.
Finally we come to the salient part of all hypothetical speech: the prices. Having a very different tax system with China and considering that the profits on each single product are very risky, the company could only raise prices to stay in expenses. At this point, the cost of Xiaomi smartphones would be similar to those of Meizu, Huawei and OnePlus, which already have the advantage of making a name in our market.
