The Consortium: joining forces for a faster future
Ultra Ethernet is not only a technology, but also a movement. A new consortium was born, theUltra Ethernet Consortium (UEC), with the aim of joining the forces of leading companies in the sector to build an Ethernet-based communication architecture. Founding members of the UEC include giants such as AMD, Arista, Broadcom, cisco, Evident, HPE, Intel, Half e Microsoft.
But why a consortium? The answer is simple: Ethernet, as we know it today, can't handle the growing Artificial Intelligence (AI) network demands and High-Performance Computing (HPC). UEC aims to improve the efficiency of workloads with specific performance requirements while maintaining and promoting Ethernet interoperability.

What is Ultra Ethernet
Ultra Ethernet doesn't just offer higher data rates. It's a completely new approach to managing data and network connections. The consortium will work for develop new specifications, APIs and source code. It will define protocols, characteristics of electrical and optical communication, interfaces for application programs and/or data structures for Ethernet communications. It will also specifically target network transport protocols at the end-to-end level to extend or replace existing link and transport protocols, and will take care of reviewing the network congestion mechanisms.
The consortium in question is a project created by the Joint Development Foundation e hosted by the Linux Foundation. Beyond the named members, the UEC will begin accepting new member applications in Q2023 XNUMX.
