Solid state batteries for wearables are ready

Le solid state batteries they will be the frontier of the market for an infinite series of products, including appliances, smartphones but also wearable. According to when communicated yesterday by Nikkei Asia, production by a large Japanese entity is about to begin. It is about Murata, a company that in 2017 acquired the section of Sony dedicated to the construction of this kind of products. But what kind of products will they use this new kind of battery in? Let's see it in detail.

Solid state batteries for Murata are in the pipeline: production of 100.000 units per month is planned for a series of products

The Japanese electronics manufacturer will establish a solid-state battery production line at its Yasu division in Japan's Shiga prefecture. Masanori MinamideMurata's board member said on Wednesday:

We will start production in small quantities in the first half of the year and finish in March 2022 and then expand production in the second half of the year

Masanori Minamide

Solid state batteries will initially be manufactured for technological genres such as headphones and wearables of different types and only after will production be extended to other sectors. These include household appliances but not cars. Solid state batteries use a solid non-combustible electrolyte between the two electrodes. I am more safe and they have one higher energy density compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries, which use combustible liquid electrolytes. They are also regarded as the most promising batteries.

Full production will not be reached immediately but the company expects that approximately 100.000 units per month. Clearly it is still too early to see or predict results. It is a technology that has not yet been applied and it is difficult to understand the implications, whether they are positive or negative. In fact, President Norio Nakajima said:

It will take some time for the battery business to become profitable. We need a certain level of investment to increase production because we are receiving a lot of orders
