WhatsApp introduces the function to send photos in HD

WhatsApp, the most popular messaging app in the world, is introducing a new function that allows you to send photos in high definition (HD) on iOS and Android. This feature, currently available to some beta testers, greatly improves the user experience when sending images, preserving their original resolution. Until now, most of the users have complained about the mishandling of sent images and photos.

The HD photo sending feature was introduced in the latest beta versions of WhatsApp for iOS, available on the TestFlight app, and WhatsApp for Android, available on the Google Play Store. This feature is currently in distribution phase to some beta testers and will be available to an increasing number of users in the coming weeks.

With this new feature, when you select a large photo for sending, an option appears that allows you to manage photo quality. You can choose to send the photo in better quality while preserving its original size. However, it is important to note that this option does not mean that you can send photos in their original quality since however, a slight compression is applied image.

Also, the default option is always “Standard Quality” for any photo. That means it is need to select the HD option each time that you want to share a new photo with improved quality. When you send a photo choosing the option “High quality“, a new tag is added to the message bubble, which helps the recipient understand when a photo has been sent using this feature.

Importantly, this feature is limited to images shared within conversations. You cannot send a video in better quality without sending it as a document, and this feature is not available when sharing photos using status updates. WhatsApp's HD photo sending feature is a significant step forward for improve the user experience in sending images. With its ongoing rollout to more and more users, this feature can be expected to become a standard feature of WhatsApp in the near future.
