WhatsApp: comes the unique username like on Telegram

WhatsApp, the world's most popular messaging app, is working on a new feature that could change the way users interact on the platform: the unique username. This feature, currently under development, will allow users to choose a unique username for their profile, offering an extra layer of privacy. Let's take a look at how the unique username works in WhatsApp and why it matters.

The new WhatsApp feature for 2023: the unique username for your account like Telegram does

The function in question was discovered in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.23.11.15. This feature, once activated, will allow WhatsApp users to choose a unique username for their account, eliminating the need to share your phone number to be contacted on WhatsApp. For those who are accustomed to other chats, they will understand that this feature is the same as implemented on Telegram.

The username will be visible within the app settings, in a dedicated section. Users can access this section through Settings > WhatsApp profile. This feature could revolutionize the way users communicate on WhatsApp, allowing them to communicate privately with companies or with other users without having to share your phone number.

It is important to note that despite the introduction of usernames, the end-to-end encryption will remain a key feature of WhatsApp. This means that conversations initiated via usernames will still be protected, ensuring the security of user communications. The unique username feature is currently under development as well will be released to beta testers in a future app update. We remind you that the messaging app is also developing a mode of password reminder for backups which causes users to check if they remember their password and if not, override it by reconfiguring the feature.
