The recently reached agreement between Xiaomi and Microsoft is an important agreement that will allow both companies to grow in their respective markets of strength. For Xiaomi obviously smartphones while for Microsoft in the distribution of their software. In fact, it seems that Xiaomi has purchased about 1500 patents relating to smartphones from Microsoft which, in addition to an economic return, has managed to "snatch" an agreement about the pre-installation of the Microsoft Office suite and Skype within Xiaomi smartphones.

Obviously there is great enthusiasm for this agreement both on one side and on the other:
We are excited to be working closely with Microsoft on a broad technology collaboration partnership. As demonstrated by this agreement with Microsoft, Xiaomi is looking to build long-term sustainable agreements and partnerships with global technology leaders, with the ultimate goal of delivering the best user experience for our Mi Fans - Xiang Wang, Senion VP of Xiaomi
People want their favorite apps to work seamlessly on the device of their choice, and that's exactly what this partnership offers. Together with Xiaomi, we are bringing the best of mobile productivity to millions of customers in China and around the world. - Peggy Johnson, VP of Business Development at Microsoft
Most likely we will see the application of these agreements already from the next smartphone that will be presented by Xiaomi. We do not know if with an update of MIUI ROM the developers will pre-install the suite Microsoft Office and Skype even on smartphones already on the market.
