The brand would indeed have discarded 703 Xiaomi products in unison. But the most interesting fact is that these products would have been discarded not in China but on American territory, specifically in the city of New York.
The Xiaomi event, which was attended by a Guinness World Record judge, was held at the World Trade Center on December 21st, but only today the news was published by the brand.
The products to be discarded were also given free of charge by Xiaomi itself, so we can call it a Christmas gift for the lucky 703. Inside the packages were devices such as headphones, wireless chargers for smartphones, other accessories and gadgets. Unfortunately, however, no trace of smartphones, most likely to keep costs down in addition to the fact that these devices are not yet officially on sale in the American country.
Finally, some sources suggest that the delay between the event and the publication of the record is due to the fact that the brand wanted official confirmation before communicating it online. Some time ago another Chinese brand, Huawei, had in fact tried to get another record by failing and therefore losing our face a bit.
Small final curiosity, the previous record regarding the greatest number of unboxing at the same time belonged to Mercado Libre. The Mexican company had given a commemorative pin to 643 people who then discarded them all together. After the event, which took place at the Mexico City Bicentennial Park in September 2019, and having obtained the Guinness World Record, all the participants also enjoyed a free concert.
