Yesterday we showed you one of the first unboxing regarding the Xiaomi Mi Router, a networking device that is simple enough to define the best in quality / price ratio | Unboxing of the Xiaomi Mi Router 3 |. Today, however, we will explain the installation procedure by guiding you step by step to fine-tune your WiFi network.
Before proceeding with the procedure, it is important to note that the Xiaomi Mi Router 3 is not a modem, so you must first connect an ADSL modem or optical fiber optic socket and then connect the model to the Xiaomi with a RJ45 cable I will Router 3 who will handle the signal, both via WiFi and wired connection.
In yesterday's article we were left with the download of the Mi WiFi application for the operating system Android or iOS. So, once installed the app, you will necessarily need to log in with your Mi Account. At this point, the smartphone will start searching for the WiFi network created by the router. Do not be scared if you find two of them, as the Xiaomi Mi Router operates on both the 2,4 GHz frequency and the 5 GHz frequency (required to use the ac protocol).
Once you have selected one of the two networks, you will be faced with the initial configuration screen. Check the box and go ahead by tapping on the only icon available. At this point you will need to set up a PPPOE connection using the data provided by your ISP (TIM, Infostrada, Fastweb etc.). In case you have a DHCP connection where login is not necessary, tap on the icon shown in the picture.
At this point you can change the SSID name of your LAN and enter a password. By checking the box, the administrator password will also become the password of your network. Obviously we advise you to use a very strong password in order not to let people access without authorization. Once you have completed the choice of these two values, tap on the icon below to move on.
At this point you will be disconnected from the network, so you will need to search for the new LAN from your smartphone (with the new name) and login with the password chosen previously. At this point, reopen the Mi WiFi app and select the "Already Connected" option. A scan will be made to tell you which devices are connected to the network.
From the screen in question you can also manage the sharing of files in the HDD or pen drive that will connect to the router through the USB port.
There are also many options that can be changed by the application, such as VPNs, software updates, LED settings, etc.
As you could see, everything is just a tap away thanks to the application developed by Xiaomi. From this point of view, the Xiaomi Mi Router 3 is very similar to Google's OnHub router family, which is managed exclusively by smartphones. Before leaving, we remind you once again that the Xiaomi Mi Router 3 has a cost, at the exchange rate, just 20 euro.
