Xiaomi apocalypse in Russia: server down and ecosystem broken down

Some time ago we addressed the issue of Xiaomi's return to Russia. In reality, however, if you have read the article, you will know that the Chinese brand is actually present in the country but the sales channels are affected by the restrictions. Today, new news: everything the ecosystem of Xiaomi products in Russia is broken. Nothing works and the servers are down. What is happening to what the Russian media they call "apocalypse"?

What happens to the Xiaomi ecosystem in Russia: server down and ecosystem that doesn't work

The Xiaomi ecosystem is out of order throughout Russia. The proprietary application We Home, used to control equipment, does not work, accounts cannot be accessed and the application store GetApps does not open. Changing the provider does not produce results and neither does replacing a Russian IP address with a foreign one.

Interestingly, for some of the devices continue to work. For example, one of the editors of CNews (i.e. the source referred to) who is currently in Moscow, has a fully functional Mi Band 5. However, it works alongside an iPhone 13. Another editor, currently stationed in southern Russia, reported an inability to fully use any Xiaomi device he has.

Another user reports that the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop 2 Pro robot vacuum cleaner has stopped working: it cannot be accessed via the Mi Home application. He still forcibly turns on by pressing the button on the body, but he orients himself in space differently than before. Apparently, even the map he previously built is inaccessible and moves relying exclusively on sensors and constantly bumping into obstacles that he had previously avoided.

xiaomi may disappear from russia

At the time the problem was disclosed, Xiaomi did not comment on what is happening, but the problem is clearly of a national nature. According to the Downradar service, the ecosystem of the Chinese brand has Broken on October 4, 2023 at approximately 20:00 pm, Moscow time – during this period the first reports of failures began to appear. As of midnight on October 5, 2023, the number of reports was approaching 300.

Most messages come from Moscow e St. Petersburg but the reports come from all over the country: from Siberia, from the south and central regions.

Moreover, the problem, judging by the reports, concerns not only the Mi Home application and the devices connected to it: many do not have access to their Xiaomi account and for some the GetApps application store and Mi Community do not open.

For now there is a possibility that whatever is happening could be linked to anti-Russian sanctions, supported, for example, by Chinese companies Huawei and Lenovo. So far Xiaomi has done nothing of the sort, albeit almost immediately after February 24, 2022 halved importing its equipment to Russia.

Let's hope it's not the sanctions, which Xiaomi aligns itself with like Western countries. I immediately abandon the Xiaomi brand. Great Russia
