Review ELEPHONE W2 Smart Watch Bluetooth

The market for Chinese and non-Chinese smartwatches has expanded a lot in recent months in directions that are also quite different from each other. Basically we find two macro categories that distinguish these devices: The most advanced smartwatches equipped with the Android Wear operating system (very expensive) and a series of varied alternatives equipped with their own operating systems with mostly fitband functionality. The Elefone W2 is one of these.

Elefone W2 - Design

We are not facing the classic "band" minimal but ad a real handheld clock which incorporates into the dialect of status LED with functions similar to, for example, the Xiaomi MiBand, but with the added convenience of reading the time.

The style is a bit retro and conveys an overall elegant look. The materials are of excellent workmanship: the slightly golden case is in steel and is waterproof, the strap is in genuine leather (black with carbon-like textures) completes the feeling of quality, which is fundamental since it is a “classic” watch.

Thickness, weight and size are generous but once worn, it gives a pretty pleasing feeling even on my arm that is not very large.

The battery is the "non-rechargeable" button (3 included in the package) and guarantees lasting about 3 months. The replacement operation is easy and is done by unscrewing the four screws on the back using the special screwdriver included in the package.

Elefone W2 - Operation

As already stated, the Elephant W2 incorporates functions similar to those of MiBand (1 version) or life-cycle monitoring (counters), including Sleep, Notifications, Alarms and Remote Control, all easily signaled through several multicolored LEDs located inside the dial. The glass is not a touchscreen, so all operations are performed through the three side buttons.

Clock: The ability to show the time is not only an additional function compared to other fit bands, but it is also an aesthetic element that differentiates it from other products.

Activity monitoring : The Elefone W2 keeps track of your activity both day and night, even if the switch must be done manually. The daytime one keeps track of our steps by showing through the LEDs the percentage of achievement of the goal that can be set through the appropriate app; a notification (which can be disabled) will also notify you if your physical activity is insufficient. Night activity is instead monitored by measuring the total hours of sleep, diversifying them between "light" and "heavy"

Remote Camera : It is possible to control the camera shooting directly from one of the clock buttons.

Notifications : Multicolored LEDs and an integrated vibration motor, are able to signal the evolution of your physical activity but also any incoming calls on your phone connected via bluetooth 4.0.

Alarm : From the application it is possible to set different alarms customizable in the degree / type of vibration

Find Phone : It should allow you to find your phone via vibration but at present I have not been able to make it work and perhaps it will have to be enabled in the future via software update (the watch updates itself via OTA)

The Android application that comes with this device, downloadable via the QR Code in the box, allows you to manage all of the features listed above, of course, to browse the history of all your daytime and nighttime activities.

I do not want to go into the details of the same which are rather obvious, but I want to emphasize that unlike other software tested, this is well done and works well.

It connects via the 4.0 bluetooth that guarantees minimal battery power and allows you to upgrade your clock.

Elefone W2 - Conclusions

We are faced with a unique device as it is based on an analog clock but comparing it with other fitbands in the sector, it really comes out with its head held high thanks to the quality of the materials, the care in the construction and the management software although not flawless, above brute apps tried in the past.

The price, however, is higher than the average because it stands around the 60 € but are largely justified by the materials: swiss movement, steel case, real leather strap.

I imagine that the choice of this purchase basically revolves around your taste and the need to have MiBand functions and those of a timepiece gathered in a single stylish object.
