With Android 12, we won't have to wait months for new emojis

Every time that Google releases a substantial update for smartphones Android, we hope that there is some news in the area of characters or emoji. Unfortunately, however, the news comes slowly for one particular reason: the partition inside which the emojis and characters are "crammed" is one. Consequently, when there is a need to update only one of these two things, the other must necessarily wait for the partner to be ready. Apparently with Android 12 things could change. And for the better. Let's see how.

Android 12 will make sure that emojis and characters are placed inside two separate partitions: no more waiting for months for updates

According to what revealed by Android Police in the future it will not be necessary to wait months and months before an update of the emoji pack i of the characters. Android stores emojis on the system partition, along with fonts, so a full system update is required to get new smilies. Judging by the publicly available information, Google wants to remove the characters and emojis from the system partition and aims to add them to the data partition, where they would be upgradeable without a system update.

Furthermore, to avoid any kind of problem, Google would have thought to make the emoji and character file writable only by system_server. This means that it will not be possible to modify them but only to read them. Last November the XDA developers they revealed the same feature but it wasn't clear when it would be introduced on our smartphones. Now however we know as the developers have revealed that the feature will land with Android 12.
