After a series of rumors, Google officially unveiled a cheaper version of its set-top box chromecast introduced in 2020. The device has retained the design compact of the original model two years ago, but nevertheless has limited technical characteristics, which have made it possible to make the “little one” even cheaper.
The new Google Chromecast model, like the original, works with the proprietary operating system Google TV, designed specifically for TVs. This operating system is the evolution of Android TV. The main difference between the models is the lack of 4K support. It is capable of transmitting videos with a maximum resolution of 1080p. At the same time, support is available for HDR10 e HDR10 +.
In all other respects, the models are completely identical. The available version of Google Chromecast supports voice control Google Assistant, smart home control, streaming from other devices that use the Chromecast protocol and is compatible with the game streaming service Stadia. The set-top box connects to the TV via HDMI, but requires power from a wall socket via a USB Type-C connector.
