TSMC announces the real culprits of the chip crisis

La chip crisis now raging all over the world. Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers (more than others) are bending over backwards to reverse the trend. AMD claimed that before 2022 the situation will not improve. In this article we have addressed what are the reasons why it has come to this point. But who are the real culprits? The head of TSMC he said that it is not the users, but the companies that buy and stock up on microprocessors. Let's see the details.

Who is to blame for the chip crisis? Companies have been stocking up for a year now, and TSMC says it's all their responsibility

The President of TSMC Mark liu in a recent interview on TEAM pointed out one of the reasons for the chip crisis. It seems that next to the natural factors that have interrupted the normal functioning of the industry, there are also "artificial" ones.

When automakers, some of the first to experience shortages of semiconductors, but also those of smartphones, have accused TSMC of failing to meet production requirements, Liu instructed his subordinates to collect data to try to understand what was going on. As it turned out, some of the customers in the supply chain were actually running out of stock, but others were accumulating products at the same time.

Consequently, TSMC has decided to reallocate capacity in favor of the first category of customers. Apparently, this decision was unpopular, but given the current situation, it seems right. All to get over the chip crisis, after all.

According to Liu, "there are people who are certainly hoarding chips in no one knows where in the supply chain", That is, in effect, the problem is not with TSMC nor with the growing needs of end users of semiconductor products, but in retailers and distributors who stockpile chips in warehouses to raise prices.
