Official end of support dates for OnePlus 8 (series) and OnePlus Nord

Just a few weeks ago we complained about the unhappy choice of OnePlus about the policy of updating its mass and medium-low range devices N10 and N100. They will receive only one major release because “this is the market”. Nord instead will receive two major releases as usual and the 8 series as many. But if until now we have not had certain dates, only community threads, today on Official site a useful diagram appears that informs us, for each model of the 8 series and for the Nord model, when official support ends.

UPDATE AT THE END OF THE ARTICLE - 09/12/202

OnePlus confirms the end of official support for the 8 series (standard and Pro) and for the North: in 2023 no more updates

Three years, this is the time when the company will continue to upgrade the above terminals. So if all of the models listed were launched this year, the 2023 will mark the end of official support. So the updates (both Android and OxygenOS) will finish coming out in three years.

Official end of support dates for OnePlus 8 (series) and OnePlus Nord

But not only the year, the company also tells us the month. Here is the mirror:

  • OnePlus North: July 2023
  • OnePlus 8 (complete series): April 2023

The correctness of the brand must be emphasized. Unlike what many other companies do, the Chinese giant led by Pete Lau has support end dates communicated well in advance. An extra point for the company which, however, continues to receive negative feedback. We refer to the failure of many to resolve bugs on their flagship smartphones. On unofficial Facebook communities and groups the complaints are many. It would be the case that the developers started solving (as they did before) all the problems.

The dates shown here also foreshadow the fine support for smartphones that have yet to come out. There 9 series will, presumably, end up receiving updates between April and July of 2024.

UPDATE - 09/12/2020

An official press release, via XDA, confirms that the above dates refer exclusively to Android Enterprise Recommended (AER):

“We want to clarify that there are no changes to our security update schedule. We have removed incorrect information from our website and apologize for any confusion. "

Therefore, do not worry: updates will be delivered as expected and as promised. Unfortunately for OnePlus, the company entered incorrect information on the page and social media users did not recognize that the page was limited to AER devices.
