Snapdragon: cause of overheating discovered. No blame on companies

Lately we've been hearing a lot about overheating problems of smartphones due to the processors they integrate. Specifically, an emblematic case is that represented by Snapdragon 8 Gen1, the new top-of-the-range SoC equipped by Xiaomi 12 Pro e OnePlus 10 Pro. For some time it has been said that this processor heats up too much but we have never wondered why? Yes, and the answer has never arrived at least until today. The fault is not of Xiaomi or OnePlus (in these two cases) but of the design by ARM.

Why do some Snapdragon processors get hot? It also happens with Exynos and the fault lies with ARM… not the individual smartphone companies

Experts may have revealed what caused the problems overheating in Exynos and Snapdragon processors, especially in the latest devices. Both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Exynos 2200 suffer from similar overheating issues. We will not go into the question of comparing their performance here, but we will address the discourse of "because" It happens.

Secondo Business Korea, the problem is caused by the ARM design of the processors. The problem of smartphone overheating affects several brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi e Motorola. Currently, Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 are featured in flagship devices and have proved problematic in terms of heating, performance and power consumption.

The problem is there both in processors manufactured by Samsung and TSMC, which reinforces the fact that the problem is not the process itself, but the design. Both Snapdragon and Exynos platforms use the ISA design (Instruction Set Architectures) by ARM. It is an abstract model that defines how the CPU will be controlled by the software.

But why doesn't all this happen to Apple? To explain this, the sources cite as an example the processors used in the iPhone which also use the ARM design. However, they do not suffer from overheating and performance issues. According to them, the reason for this is that Apple works to adapt the chips to its devices. Which others don't do. In fact, the contributing causes could be the manufacturing process, processor design, peripheral components and software performance, according to them.

So, the problem would be that Samsung and Qualcomm are using their Exynos and Snapdragon processors across multiple smartphones as well they keep the design, with no changes between models, giving priority to compatibility and not optimization, like Apple.

It makes us smile nicely creating custom processors like google tensor. These, at least in theory, they shouldn't have any problems of this type because they are built right above the potential of the single smartphone that equip them.
