Goodbye updates for these two Xiaomi and Redmi series

The talk of updates for smartphones Xiaomi e Redmi, but also for all those of other companies, it is a very particular matter. Most users think that it all depends on the individual companies: the reality is quite different. It is the processor manufacturers (Qualcomm, MediaTek and company) that "close the door" and no longer give developers access after a certain number of years. But having said that, let's see which Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones will no longer receive updates.

All is not lost

Currently, Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro models are mainly supported by unofficial versions of Pixel Experience based on Android 13, with the most recent update dating back to early June of this year. As for the Redmi 9, the options are more numerous, given that in the last month a dozen different ROMs have been released for this device, all based on Android 13. Some of these can be identified as "lava", indicating that the ROM is compatible with both Redmi 9 and with POCO M2, but only for the Indian market.

For Redmi 9A and 9C models, the offer of Unofficial ROMs is currently quite sparse. Only recently was a version of LineageOS based on Android 13, compatible with all Redmi 9 series models under the common name of “blossom”. Despite this, it is possible that a custom ROM scene for these phones will develop in the future, although considering their age, this development is unlikely to continue over time.

The Redmi Note 9, similar to the Redmi 9, benefits from a extensive custom ROM support. These are available for this device under the codename "merlinx", as "merlin" is already used by a Motorola model. It is important to be careful not to install malicious software by mistake. Apart from this small difference, the installation process is very similar to that of the other models.

Finally, the Redmi Note 9 Pro offers a wide range of custom ROMs, although news of the most recent releases dates back to mid-April. ROMs for this model usually come with the code name “miatoll”, which indicates that they can be installed on both Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9S.
