A fake Android update hides viruses: how to recognize it

Un virus malware that hides behind a Android system update: this is the new threat that is affecting several smartphones, and which can take complete control of the device, as well as steal its data.

It was the security researchers of the Zimperium zlabs who identified it in an app called “System Update”, not present on the Google Play Store but downloadable from third-party sites. So the advice is not to download files downloaded from untrustworthy sources.

How the virus in the form of an Android update works

Zimperium has confirmed that this virus manages to steal messages, contacts, device details, search history and other information. And that's not all: it can perform a whole range of other actions and commands, such as recording calls, ambient sounds from the microphone and taking pictures!

In addition, it also reduces the amount of network data consumed, as it activates GPS by tracking the user's location. And all this, of course, without the smartphone owner noticing anything at all.

Shridhar Mittal, CEO of Zimperium, stated that it is a very complex virus, the result of a targeted attack: "It is the most sophisticated we have ever seen - explains Mittal - I think a lot of time and effort has been spent to create this app. . There are certainly other similar ones, which is why we are doing our best to find them as soon as possible ”.
