The story of Flyme

Before talking about the arrival at Flyme, it is necessary to go back a little in time, to understand the steps that led to its creation. In 2003 Meiuzu was born, a Chinese consumer electronics company, this started as a manufacturer of portable devices for audio playback, first MP3 players and later MP4 players. Since 2008, Meizu has decided to enter the burgeoning smartphone market. The first model produced by the company was the Meizu M8, based on Microsoft Windows CE 6 and with a modified GUI to make it similar to the iPhone. In 2010, Meizu was forced to cease production of this model due to pressure from Apple.

At this point the Chinese company decides to completely change the operating system on its mobile phones and following the example of Samsung, it passes with the M9 model, to Android (2.2 FroYo). After the success of this model, Meiuzu decides to take a step forward and in the next model, the Meizu Mx of 2012, decides to use Android 2.3 Gingerbread with customized UI by its own development team and so Flyme was born. Which is not only used on Meiuzu phones, but is in great demand for porting to other devices.

Firmware Versions

The Meiuzu team creates several types of Flyme firmware and sometimes it creates confusion among users. To clarify, let's see the versions in detail:

Firmware R: This is the Flyme system designed for smartphones from other manufacturers, such as HTC, Samsung and Sony. It can not be installed on Meizu smartphones.

Firmware I (international): This is the firmware that Meizu creates and develops specifically for international customers, therefore not for the Chinese market. This is the only one that natively supports Google services. This firmware can only be installed on Meiuzu.ù smartphones

Firmware A (universal): This firmware is defined as universal because it can be installed on all Meiuzu models even if Google services are not pre-installed.

Firmware U: It is a firmware intended for a specific Chinese telephone operator. Also for this reason google services are not pre-installed A-

Firmware Y: It is a hybrid firmware (Flyme / YunOS) dedicated to the Chinese market only and created by Meiuzu in collaboration with Alibaba.
