Features of the iPhone 14 that Android has already had for a long time

The launch of iPhone 14 it has been a success and so far nothing to complain about. The device is excellent, flawless and many users have been waiting for the news that we find above for a long time. It is only fitting that these are surprised because this model has carried more than one of them news. But which ones? And it is justifiable so much hyping? For Apple users, yes, of course. But for those who have been using Android for years, there isn't nothing too exciting.

Not to throw mud at Apple, but many features introduced on the iPhone 14 have been around for a long time on Android. Here's what they are

Apple introduced the iPhone 14 line, consisting of four smartphones. As usual, a significant portion of the innovations have already been seen in the Android world, and some chips are even more than ten years old. I'm four novelties introduced with iPhone 14: Always-On-Display, 40 megapixel camera with pixel binning, accident detection, satellite link.

Always-On-Display: Apple users have always asked for this by looking at Android

The always-on display is the most obvious advantage of today's Android phones. This option is appeared for the first time in the days of Symbian and was later called screensaver. Now Always-On Display is present on many smartphones from Huawei, Motorola, Samsung, Google and other companies. On some models with LTPO AMOLED displays, the background frame rate is reset to 1-10Hz (adaptive frame rate) which it consumes almost nothing in terms of battery

48 megapixel camera with pixel binning

A feature perhaps ape in the Android world, but that many still appreciate. Since the iPhone 6S, the main camera in Apple devices has been the 12 megapixel. But iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are equipped with a main sensor from 48 megapixels… albeit false. In most cases, the final image still has a resolution of 12 megapixels by combining four adjacent pixels into one - this technology is called pixel binning. This trick allows you to improve the quality of the photo, especially when shooting in low light conditions.

Nokia introduced binning ten years ago: in 2012 it debuted with PureView. The resolution of its main camera was 41 megapixels and the output was 8 or 5 megapixel frames. Even in the Android world, the functionality is common. For example, on the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, the sensor Samsung ISOCELL HP1 200 megapixel camera combines 16 pixels simultaneously into one. Therefore, the size of each dot increases from 0.64 to 2.56 µm.

Incident Detection: Taken from Google Pixels Maybe?

Thanks to the new accelerometer and gyroscope, as well as a barometer and microphones, the entire iPhone 14 line is able to determine if the owner of the device has had an accident. The neural network algorithm recognizes several types of car collisions and also understands when the car rolls over. In the event of an accident, your smartphone will ask you to contact the emergency services. In the devices of the family Google Pixel a similar feature is available from 2020. Like Apple's implementation, the incident detection algorithm on the Pixel uses the phone's built-in sensors.

Satellite link

If an emergency (not just a traffic accident) occurs in an area with no cellular signal, iPhone 14 will be able to iSend a message about it to the satellite emergency services. To do this, Apple has signed a contract with GlobalStar. The feature will launch in the US and Canada in November and will be free for two years. Curiously, the day before the presentation of the iPhone 14, Huawei introduced a similar feature in the flagship Mate 50 line.

In short, the hype is more than justified for Apple users clamoring for these features. But for the others, nothing serious after all.
