Google app keeps crashing? Here's how to fix it

In the last few hours, a good number of users seem to be faced with a crash of the Google app on their Android smartphone, which makes it almost unusable. At the moment there is still no official statement from Google explaining why this crash occurs, but it seems quite clear that a new app update is causing the problem.

Google app keeps crashing? Here's how to fix it

Either way, the problem doesn't seem to be limited to just one version of the app. As reported by Android Police, the problem is found both with the version 12.23.16.23 of a Redmi K20 Pro and on a smartphone that runs with the beta version 12.24.7.29. Unfortunately, the Lens, Podcast and Assistant apps are also affected by the crashes as they are grouped together in the Google app.

For the time being, Google's official Twitter account has suggested a manual restart to fix the problem and this seems to work for some users. That said, apparently the fix doesn't work on all devices and you need to take other steps to stop the crashes.

The best way to fix it is probably to uninstall the update via Google Play Store, alternatively you can try clearing the cache and stored data.

We recall that in the month of March we had witnessed a relatively similar problem that afflicted thousands, if not millions, of users from all over the world. This time it was, however, the Android Webview system not working properly.
