Google Assistant and Alexa understand even without voice commands

Google Assistant it is perhaps the most used voice assistant in the world. Almost all devices with GSM use it. In the future, he will become more indispensable than many other services that the giant offers and for this scientists have decided to develop his skills. However, these are not internal researchers at Google, but scholars of the Cornell University of the United States. These in fact they taught a Siri and Google Assistant a understand a person without words. Let's see how

It's all true: a group of scientists managed to make Google Assistant understand "mute" vowels: without words you can communicate with him

Researchers from Cornell University in the United States have developed a wearable device original for voice assistant users Crab, Alexa e Google Assistant. The compact device allows you to interact with virtual assistants without emitting any sound. A miniature device called SpeeChin is equipped with an infrared camera and is designed to be worn around the neck. The target facing up tracks the position of a person's chin and, after a short period of automatic learning, it recognizes the voice commands, even if the user pronounces them silently. At the same time, the device does not "see" the faces of the owner himself and those around him.

The first SpeeChin test was performed on 20 volunteers. They said simple sentences, including numbers, in English and Chinese. In the first case, therecognition accuracy was 90.5%, in the second 91.6%. Indicators worsened if people simultaneously performed some movements, for example, walking, as a result of which their facial expressions changed. The developers claim that this problem can be solved by organizing longer training sessions for the device.

In the future, engineers intend improve the hardware by SpeeChin, which will allow you to more effectively track the movements of the chin by increasing the shutter speed and increasing the resolution of the camera. The introduction of this technology in the future could simplify user interaction with voice assistants such as Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant in situations where it is inconvenient to say a command aloud (for example in public transport).
