In recent months there has been much discussion on the issue related to smartphone security, complicit in the political / economic events between America and China that have heavily penalized the technology giant Huawei. Also for this reason Xiaomi in the latest MIUI releases has modified some of its system apps such as the telephone dialer and the message app, favoring the official ones of Google and therefore of Android Stock.
But despite these precautions in the last hours Xiaomi is experiencing an unpleasant experience with Google Play Protect, which has blocked the Xiaomi app, Mi Quick Apps. This application that Xiaomi gave us, has allowed users to use the applications coming from their store without having to download them but apparently it seems that the operation was not limited exclusively to that.
Why the quick apps is blocked by the play protect?
There is an app update in the app updater system and while installing the quick apps got blocked by play protect. @ XiaomiIndia @s_anuj @manukumarjain @cmanmohan pic.twitter.com/NBe6vYWxSd- Vyas Yalamudi (@vyas_yalamudi) November 14, 2019
Follow-up problems one of the possible causes of this blockade
So the reason why the Google Play Protect system has blocked this application is because it seems that it collects data from users who have installed it without their knowledge. In reality, the block only arrived with the update of November 14, 2019, so it is to be excluded that before now there have been problems with the security of the app, even if it is to be brought to light that the requests for authorization of the 'application are 55, while the sensitive data collected refer to the IMEI number of the device, the number of the SIM card, our position established by the network as well as the possibility of recording audio and video without our awareness.
The indicted update at the moment concerns only Asian countries such as Indonesia and Thailand and it is unlikely that it will even come from us considering the restrictions that the European Union applies to our data. We realize that we could create alarmism, and so it is the case that you continue to read the article as Xiaomi has already contacted Google and stated that the problem of blocking the Mi Quick Apps app is due to a revision of the Google Play Protect algorithm confirming that their application is ABSOLUTELY SECURE.
However the Xiaomi developers are already working behind this problem but for sure this is not a good advertisement for the brand, for potential users who are considering buying one of their terminals for this Christmas.
