Google sets some fundamental rules for notch optimization!

Even before that Android P officially announced, we knew that Google he was planning to include support for the notch for all Android devices. Finally, after big statements, this could really be the case with this addition by the company of Mountain View.

We have seen several Android-based smartphones with a notch design up to this point, and it is obvious that we will see them in the future more and more. But before things get out of hand, Google is dictating some basic rules.

In an effort to make sure that Android apps work on a variety of different devices, especially those that are starting to play with a little more design, adding different types of notches, the system is designed to handle things automatically. By default, Android apps should work so that the status bar must be resized until you reach the notch and the app content should be displayed below. Later if you place the device in landscape mode, the notch should be dimmed so that the content is letterboxed but also so that the much disputed notch does not interfere with the content.

The interesting part of the discussion of Google on the notch is that he is putting the overdrive of presence, a limit that stops at two. Only two notches on smartphone, with support for one at the top and one at the bottom. This means that there is no support for a hypothetical notch on the side of the display. Fortunately, we have not yet seen the presence of this new design in circulation.

Also, keep in mind that these rules apply to Android manufacturers who want Google support with the Play Store and services, which is obviously the most important part of Android devices in circulation. But it is always possible to see some crazy drawings with various notches different from a producer who does not have to follow those rules because he does not consider the presence of Google services on his smartphone as fundamental.

Logically, these rules will improve the user experience even on Xiaomi smartphones, such as the latest top of the range, the My 8 or as the second model of Android One, the We are A2. Also we can not completely put aside the idea that in the future you can use smartphones with more than two notches, in that case, Google will have to change the guidelines for the optimization of the much contested notch.
