Guide: how to remove RottenSys malware from Xiaomi, Samsung & Co. devices

Although Google continues to implement new policies to make Android devices more secure, researchers continue to find flaws in the operating system that could compromise the privacy and security of millions of users around the world. One of the evils that most afflicts devices with Android operating system are the growing malware that too many times we find pre-installed on phones and tablets shipped from online sellers poco serious, and most popular smartphone brands such as Huawei, Samsung and even Xiaomi are certainly not exempt.

The computer security researchers of Check Point Software Technologies they gave the alarm on a new malware called RottenSys, which seems to be present on millions of new smartphones that apparently seem have a Hangzhou-based distributor called Tian Pai in common. The malware display advertisements on the homepage of the affected device, such as pop-up windows or full-screen ads.

Unfortunately the RottenSys malware was first detected in a Redmi series Xiaomi device, where it was disguised as a "system Wi-Fi service", although it does not provide any Wi-Fi service. It requires a lot of permissions that have nothing to do with Wi-Fi, for example, accessibility service authorization, user calendar read access and silent download permission.

The Check Point Mobile Security team states that RottenSys malware 2016 started to spread in September and 12 infected devices are 2018 4964460. Users in China appear to be the main targets of malware, since it has been adapted to use the advertising platforms of the Chinese technology giants Tencent and Baidu. Furthermore malware has many variations but all were designed to communicate with their control servers without requiring any user permission. The apps themselves are apparently not installed with any malicious code, but are subsequently downloaded to the background from their command centers using the"DOWNLOAD_WITHOUT_NOTIFICATION" permission which does not require any user interaction.

MALWARE ROTTENSYS INFLUENCES THE PERFORMANCE OF OUR SMARTPHONE

What is amazing is that RottenSys goes far beyond being a harmless adware / malware. According to CheckPoint, cybercriminals who implement the software have also tested a new botnet campaign through the same command-and-control server. This it significantly affects the increase in download data, battery life and affects performance by putting stress on the hardware. RottenSys in his "career" published 13250756 of ads that received 548822 clicks, which by estimating (considering about 20 cents per click) results in a fraudulent gain of about 115000 dollars.

Fortunately there is an easy way to get rid of malware, and therefore if your device is affected, you need to go to the Settings> App management menu and then check if any of the following unwanted services are active. In that case just uninstall the corresponding app and you will be free from malware. So if you have from poco purchased a smartphone from sites that are not really recommendable or if you are experiencing some problems I suggest you check if these 4 listed below are present in the installed applications.
