Meta (formerly Facebook) begins with the first legal disputes

Meta debuted a few days ago even though the transaction is more transparent than it seems. The former Facebook company plans to create what is called "metaverse“, That is a virtual reality where you can live with your own avatar. In addition, it appears that the behemoth owned by Mark Zuckerberg is about to present two more "concrete" products: a smartwatch and a VR sensor. All nice, except that there are companies that put a spoke in the wheel and accuse il brand. Let's see what happens.

Meta (formerly Facebook) did not even have time to debut: here are the first legal disputes. These are the three companies that file a complaint

The first company to complain is an American company that assembles custom PCs, MetaPC. This filed the trademark registration on August 23, more than two months before Zuckerberg's marketing ploy. The two founders of Meta PC, Joe Darger e Zack Shutt, have declared to the site TMZ that the company had been in operation for a year, but had decided to apply for trademark registration only recently

meta, former facebook: the first problems with justice

However, the registration has not been made and both can withdraw the patent, on one condition: Facebook has to pay the company 20 million dollars. The amount would cover the cost of Meta PC rebranding. Despite this, Facebook sources have declared to Apple Insider to be confident that Facebook will be able to register without difficulty.

Another problem in itself is the Meta logo. Facebook was inspired by the concept of a metaverse in design: the M is a blue that resembles Facebook, but is intertwined and gives the impression that the virtual universe is always connected and changing. But two companies thought similarly: one of them, the startup M-sense, was created to treat migraines. In an interview with the German Business Insider, the CEO of the company, Marcus Dahlem, says he fears that the association with Meta will damage the application used to treat headaches.

This is not just an image problem though. Dahlem states that theabuse of Facebook privacy can lead people using the M-Sense app to be wary of data sharing, which is crucial for migraine treatment.

Finally, the company that was most affected by Facebook's name change to Meta was Milenium Group. The Latin American marketing and communication agency has announced that it will sue Meta for "misuse" of its logo. According to MilleniumGroup, from March 2020 the group uses an intertwined M-shaped logo.

The company intends to take legal action in US courts, with the aim of getting Facebook to give up the figure as a logo. The company's CEO said:

We need to defend our intellectual property. Creativity is one of the characteristics of our agency and that is why our lawyers will ask for Facebook's withdrawal in court
