The question of microchip it's black. Not only are these difficult to find, but the European Union (like all other countries) depends on two main powers: Asia and the United States. Just a few days we have seen how the American GlobalFoundries used $ 1.4 billion in investments to address the processor crisis. Likewise, TSMC has invested billions to increase production. In between, however, there are us, who depend on them. How will we move?
The European Union has no intention of continuing to purchase entirely from Asia and the United States: by 2030, 20% of microchips will be born from us
According to what revealed by Bloomberg (via D Day), the agreement will be ratified in the coming weeks Digital compass. This agreement provides for a share of microchips to be produced in Europe so that the countries that are part of it will not only be able to buy them at a lower price, but will also be able to break away from the Asian and US "grip". Currently all processors come from the two countries and we buy them from there, both directly (companies) and indirectly (the user who buys a smartphone). But what numbers are we talking about?

From the document we read that Bloomberg has intercepted, that the 20% of the microchips used in Europe in 2030 are produced in Europe itself. A measure, if we can call it that, in the long term but not so much. Only 9 years old. And this makes us understand the situation of the world market: microprocessors are scarce and also the EU must do its part, quickly.
Reducing dependence on non-European companies will allow the EU to become digitally sovereign, as well as protecting European interests in a more appropriate way. We will also continue to support the open nature of the Internet
It reads from the document in Bloomberg's hand
Clearly, to achieve this goal, the construction of an all-European foundry, where the greatest powers in the sector will work. The microchips that will be produced, it says, will go from 5 nm upwards. This means two things: independence on the one hand, competitiveness on the other.
