With the release of Android Nougat, Google has made it much more efficient and user friendly the management of notifications in its mobile operating system.
This was a novelty highly acclaimed by Android users, but for technical reasons, we are the users of MIUI we could not appreciate it for more than a year.
Fortunately for us, though with an important delay, the team behind the development of MIUI has been able to integrate the so-called Nougat-style notifications into Xiaomi's UI by solving some bugs related to displaying the notifications themselves and making MIUI based on Android 7 as far as notification management is concerned, a ROM similar to those developed by other brands.
But what is the result of this new implementation on our beloved MIUI? Let's take a quick look at the new Notification System MIUI 9, but not without a small excursus of the bugs that afflicted the old one.
MIUI Notification Management: What were the bugs that afflicted the old system?
Who uses MIUI for a long time knows very well that one of the major handicaps of his old notification management system was that he had to use two fingers to expand the notifications of interest. Not a bug to say the truth, but a condition wanted by the MIUI developers and who began to feel its weight, obviously negative, once introduced Nougat and its highly effective notifications system.
Only NUGAT-based MIUI users know that the old notification system was affected by a bug related to displaying them: on the one hand, it did not make it possible to recognize different notifications from the same app (specifically WhatsApp), giving place multiple views of the same in the notifications tendency, on the other hand, prevented it from displaying full content when expanded by swipe with two fingers.

The following picture shows three types of situations in which you have, in order, a notification from the app themes, three grouped notifications coming from WhatsApp and a single notification always coming from the application.
By expanding these notifications, the situations depicted in this second image are presented. In the first case it is possible to download the theme without having to access the app themes, in the second the notifications are separated according to each single message received, and finally in the third we are offered the possibility to make a quick reply without having to pass from the actual app.
Features that we could not wait to try also on our Xiaomi, which make them very usable at the level of notification management but which unfortunately continue to lack a management mode that is not exactly optimal: to expand the notifications you still need to use two fingers, making it in fact poco practical use of the smartphone with one hand. Don't you find?
The new notification management system is already available on ROMs belonging to the China branch of MIUI 9 and therefore also on custom ROMs compiled by friends of xiaomi.eu. For the Global the problems of partial and multiple display of notifications have been solved, but at the moment the above features have not yet been implemented.
