Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible

We've been hearing rumors about a successor to the Switch console for a while, but so far Nintendo he preferred to keep silent on the matter. No news also compared the extension of the life of the current console with new releases recently announced. But there is news that could please all gamers: Nintendo Switch 2 should be backwards compatible and ensure a smooth transition from the first to the second generation.

Keyword: backwards compatibility. The Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible according to the Nintendo president. Here are all the details

Speaking during the Q&A session held at the company's latest financial briefing, Nintendo's CEO Shuntaro Furukawa has briefly mentioned the imminent arrival of the second generation console, stating that while every console launch has been a clean slate in the past, that won't be the case with future hardware, thanks to the Nintendo Account system. Leveraging the more than 290 million accounts created to date, Nintendo will ensure that the transition to the Nintendo Switch successor is smoother than ever, suggesting that even the software linked to the account will be playable somehow on the new hardware. Ergo: Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible.

While very few Nintendo consoles may have access to the games of its direct predecessor, it certainly makes sense to make the Nintendo Switch 2 backwards compatible given the console's success. With PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S backward compatible, it would be strange if Nintendo didn't follow its competitors in this regard, although the Japanese company has always done things its own way.

Nothing is currently known about the Nintendo Switch 2, though the rumors suggest which will be a hybrid console like its predecessor, as Sharp has announced that it is supplying LCD screens for a new game console. While Nintendo has yet to make an announcement, the new system may not be too far from launch since the Japanese company has hinted that this console should be launched poco after its announcement. What is certain is that this launch will not take place before April 2024.
