Nokia will provide Xiaomi with fiber optic network services and a private cloud

Nokia signed a contract with Xiaomi to implement a fiber optic network to connect seven of its data centers to Beijing. The new network will reduce bottlenecks in the Chinese congestion data network by interconnecting their data centers and creating a private cloud.
The fiber optic network solution to connect seven data centers will be developed in the Beijing area. Nokia in a press release added that it will provide its Xiaomi serives to help it in the enterprise that will provide faster speed for Internet services with lower latency to its customers.
Financial details of the deal are not known, but Nokia will provide Xiaomi with its data center interconnection (DCI) solution, based on the company 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) which will manage the network services platform. The company has already provided similar solutions to large enterprises such as financial institutions, healthcare professionals and webscale businesses.

Drazen Lukic, head of IP China and Nokia's Optical Networks Business Group, said:

As large companies in China and around the globe look to take advantage of the private cloud, Nokia's data center interconnect solutions offer the ideal way to pool geographically distributed businesses. This initiative is allowing Xiaomi to maximize network capability and tackle the rapid growth in demand for traffic and to enjoy the flexibility of the cloud with the security, reliability and performance of a private network.

This project also highlights the strategy previously announced by Nokia to expand its customer base outside the smartphone industry, and focus on the sales network. Nokia sold its mobile business to Microsoft in 2014, and in late 2016, it gave HMD Global rights to produce smartphones with its brand, launching Nokia 150, then Nokia 6 in January, and recently has presented the Nokia 3310 2017 version, the Nokia 3, and the Nokia 5 the nightmare in Barcelona during the MWC.
